E2I Peer Mentoring Program
E2I introduced a peer mentoring program (PMP) to provide support and advice to students admitted under the School-based Admission (SBA) Scheme. Our Center aspires to build a forward-looking and dynamic model of innovative learning experiences for engineering students that are student-centered and outcome-based. Under the umbrella of PMP, holistic student development workshops and on-going assessment support through research and evaluation studies will go hand in hand to ascertain how students' learning experiences influence their development of generic attributes and enhancement of social adjustment skills.
Peer mentors are upper-year engineering students who volunteer their time to help the SENG first-year students. The PMP is a primary support of the SENG’s “clans” concept which was introduced to help facilitate a positive transition to HKUST. Both mentors and mentees have said the skills and opportunities gained from participation in the PMP have led to a transformative experience.
What do mentors do?
- Dive into Center and cross-department trainings that focus on coaching, effective communication, team building, and mental health first aid workshops.
- Put your skills into action by actively supporting and mentoring first-year mentees, helping them develop effective academic study plans, and sharing guidance based on your own experiences.
- Play a vital role in the School Welcoming and Orientation activities, lending a hand during Registration Day, Advising Week, Info Day, Community Meetings, and other related events.
- Collaborate with fellow mentors to create unforgettable House events that captivate and inspire mentees, with the full support and resources of the Center.
- And much more!
What do mentors get?
Along the way, mentors also form strong friendships among themselves as a community, and benefit from valuable networking opportunities with faculty, staff, and alumni of the University. In addition to an official recognition of their service, mentors are also eligible for awards for outstanding service and benefits as Student Helpers of the School.

About Houses
The School of Engineering adopts a house system for first-year advising, which is facilitated by the Peer Mentoring Program (PMP). Each house comprises a diverse mix of first-year engineering undergraduates, including local, mainland, and international students, and is aided by SENG faculty, staff advisors, and senior student mentors. Apart from delivering guidance and assistance through peer advisory sessions, the Peer Mentors also arrange a range of activities in various areas of interest to enrich your first-year journey in the School.
