Beyond the Prompt: Educating the AI-Native Generation From “Vibe Coding” to Multi-Agent Orchestration – A Roadmap for HKUST Educators
Frontiers of Co-Intelligence Education Forum
15 May 2026 (Fri)
12:00pm - 1:30pm
Engineering Commons, HKUST
Prof. Erwin Huang, Adjunct Professor in Division of Integrative Systems & Design (ISD)
Schedule:
12:00 pm – Light lunch
12:30 pm - 1:30om – Presentation, sharing and discussion,
Forum Overview:
This session explores the critical shift from teaching traditional coding to orchestrating AI agents. We will move beyond the prompt to address the real challenges and opportunities for educators in the AI era, focusing on system design, critical auditing, and developing "Managerial Taste" to prepare the next generation of innovators.
Key Highlights: What You Will Learn
• Redefine the Classroom with the "Stanford CS146S" Model: Discover how to transition your students from syntax writers to managers of "AI Interns," focusing on orchestration over implementation.
• Combat the "Vibe Coding" Controversy: Learn why the "Illusion of Competence" is the biggest threat to Gen Alpha learners and how to use new assessment methods, like the Vibe-Check Protocol, to measure true mastery.
• Navigate the "AI Performance Paradox": Understand the "Equalizing Effect," where AI boosts some students while potentially hindering high-performers, and learn strategies to manage this in your classroom.
• Prepare for the Era of Coordinated Agents: Gain insights from the 2026 Anthropic State of Coding Report on preparing students for a future of high-performing, multi-agent AI teams, not just single chatbots.
• Bridge AI Speed with Human Reflection: Explore how HKUST is using Experiential Learning and an "Accelerated Double Diamond" design process to ensure deep learning and critical thinking are not lost to the speed of generation.
